Awkward Family Photos: Book Review

One of my favorite things to do is to go to the library and browse at complete random, picking up anything that grabs my interest.  And that’s precisely how I came across Awkward Family Photos, by Mike Bender and Doug Chernack.  I was not disappointed.

Awkwardness. Big time.

If you were alive in the 70s and 80s, you were in some ugly family photos, I guar-an-tee it.  But this book goes beyond that.  Several steps beyond that.

As the name would suggest, it is mostly a picture book, but there are some captions that prove that less is sometimes more.  Much, much more.  I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up too high, but I laughed out loud, uncontrollably, several times.  Sometimes just the picture.  Sometimes just the caption.  But usually both.

There is also a website:

Solid gold!  Hilarity ensues.  Enjoy!!!

  1. We spent about an hour looking at the website the other night. I’d never heard of it. Absolutely awful, and perfect, and hilarious.

I don’t think any of our family photos would steal the show, but there are some older ones of my parents that would come close.
