American Ninja Warrior!!!

This may be the coolest thing I have ever seen.  I was watching some fights on Versus last night, and I saw a commercial for a show called “American Ninja Warrior” on G4 TV (actually, to be completely accurate, I think it is called “American Ninja Warrior 2011.”  Implying there was an “American Ninja Warrior 2010”?  “2009”?  Where have I been?!?!?!?!).  That it is playing on G4 is only one of the shocking parts of this story; usually that’s nothing but video game nerds reviewing new video games and video game systems, displayed by girls designed specifically to appeal to those nerds (you know the types), and especially the even bigger nerds at home, in an unashamed “sex sells” fashion.

But the commercial for the show, which you can see now on the G4 website, is nothing short of amazing.  I have loved all things ninja since as far back as I can remember.  When I was a kid, ninjas were, if possible, even cooler than they are now (remember Ninja Turtles, and Three Ninjas, and Surf Ninjas?).  But “American Ninja Warrior” appeals to my maturing ninja tastes.

If you go to the site, you will see the commercial I mentioned, awesome in its own right, but then you can also see tryout videos of the competitors.  I watch the “World’s Strongest Man Competition” pretty fanatically, and I have seen some mind-blowing displays of athleticism and strength on the CrossFit Games.  I won’t say that this trumps that stuff, but it is up there in terms of wow-factor and the breath-taking abilities of the human body.

The ninja warrior course, which you can only catch glimpses of from the video, is like a cross between a boot camp training course and a rock-climbing wall and a torture chamber, with a bunch of of gymnastics equipment thrown in.  It’s like parkour meets American Gladiator meets X Games meets CrossFit meets Strong Man meets Mr. Miyagi.  Hi-yah!

Suffice it to say, you know what my DVR is set to.  “American Ninja Warrior 2011,” please.

You’ve got to see it to believe it.  Pretty intense!
