Drive – Movie Review

driveYo!  This movie freaking ROCKED!!!  Drive quickly and easily became my favorite Ryan Gosling movie ever (but I haven’t seen The Notebook yet, so I guess that could be subject to change) (but then I have seen Lars and the Real Girl, so, the competition in this category may not be too tough) (but see Blue Valentine).

Yo!  It has kind of an ’80s vibe from the beginning, maybe having to do with the pink lettering and/or font of the intro credits and/or the ’80s-ish but not actual ’80s intro music and soundtrack throughout.
You would think, even from the previews and reviews and general sort of premise that you had this accurately pegged for, say, a run-of-the-mill action film.  Not so.  It is more sort of a perfect twist of romance and violence that I found irresistible.
Can we say elevator scene?
Can we say leather gloves in the motel room?
Ryan Gosling was sort of perfectly twisted in this film.  Sensitive but distant but soulful but non-communicative.  Left me begging to know the back story.  Based on a book, apparently, so I will be looking into that fo’ shizzle.
Got to love the tagline: “There are no clean getaways.”  YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“I give you a five minute window…” speech = YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Scorpion jacket = YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tres noir, homeys, but so freaking dope.  You’ve got to check it out!
