Who are your heroes? And how do you feel about meeting them? I saw George Saunders at a reading a couple of months ago, and immediately went on a crazy Saunders kick. (I’m sure he would cringe at the “hero” reference. He strikes me as a happy but really easygoing and unassuming guy. But what do I know? The last strains of sunlight lingered in the corners, grasping every available point of refraction. She slid her fingertips along the glass wondering if this was all there ever was. Or could be.
But no. Un-alone, her mirrored shadow had company in her pantomimic otherworld. With the beckoning, tenebrous gloom, an apparition, dark and menacing, approached. She shivered with delighted terror and settled in to watch.
Who likes money? I know I do. And I always have. But not in the way you think. Would I tolerate greater quantities in my possession? Absolutely. But that is not my goal. No, what really interests me is the actual paper, the ink, the security measures especially. I love looking at it. Find it fascinating. And am always on the lookout for nuances/irregularities.
